What is 'Pastel Nagomi Art'?
Pastel Nagomi Art is a Japanese mindful art. It was founded in Japan by Mr. Norikatsu Hosoya of Japan Pastel Hope Art Association (JPHAA) in 2003. Making the art is believed to have a healing effect to help to relieve stress and anxiety.
What is special about "Pastel Nagomi Art"?
Instead of drawing with a brush, we draw directly with fingers. When you express yourself with fingers and directly feel the touch of a drawing paper, it unconsciously achieves the healing effect of heart painting.
How does "Nagomi Pastel Art" achieve the healing effect?
Pastel is a type of art material that can create very warm and gentle tones in a piece of art. Hard pastel and fingers are used in Pastel Nagomi Art to create a transparent and gentle artwork through simple but unique techniques.
From a young child to an elderly person, regardless of age and the levels of skills, everyone can create a piece of artwork within 20 minutes easily. Most find it very enjoyable and feel less stressful only after making the art. The process of painting will calm one’s feelings and awaken the hope in one's heart.
Founder's story
Mr. Norikatsu Hosoya started his art journey in his 40s in Tokyo. One day, his friend was seriously ill in the hospital. To cheer him up, Mr. Hosoya drew a Pastel Nagomi Art with beautiful cherry blossoms scenery to send his blessings and love to his friend. He hoped his friend could get out of the hospital bed one day and see the real cherry blossoms together in Spring. Miracle happened. His friend eventually recovered very well and their dream had come true. This true story inspired the Founder that Nagomi Art is a great medium to bring hopes and lights to those who are needed and downhearted. He still works tirelessly and keeps creating new art works to inspire people around the world. His vision is to achieve a society that is fully abundant, healthy, harmonious and well-balanced. After over 20 years of his work, Pastel Nagomi Art is making a positive difference to people's lives and will continue to influence more.
